Bigfoot Learning Centers
Launched in December 2002, the first phase of the Bigfoot IT Learning Center program included the construction of 22 Bigfoot Learning Centers, purchase of computer equipment and the training of the teachers on the basic of computers at an initial setup cost of USD160,000 million.
To reaffirm its commitment to the advancement of IT education, Bigfoot provided additional funding in 2004 for phase 2, the teachers education and phase 3, the computer books donation. The follow through training for the teachers on the different techniques and methodologies was conducted to help the mentors effectively teach IT to students. USD 16,000 worth of books was provided to the beneficiary schools. Bigfoot has since collaborated with the Department of Education to monitor the usage of the centers as well as maintain the infrastructure and equipment through additional funding.
The 22 beneficiaries include Babag, Villadolid and Tuyom Elementary Schools in Carcar; Matutinao and Sibugay Elementary Schools in Badian; Maya National High School; Malingin and Logon National High Schools in Daanbantayan; Balirong National High School and Langtad High School in Naga; Arcelo Memorial National High School in Liloan; Compostela National High School; Bullogan, Tubod and Cotcoton Elementary Schools, Dumanjug and Cogon National High Schools in Dumanjug; Malubog and Sirao Elementary Schools in Cebu City; Valencia, Negros Oriental; and the YLAC Free School in Cebu City. Over 10 schools have since been added to the program.
The program has made it possible for the beneficiary schools to integrate computer learning into their curriculum and heighten the enthusiasm of students in information technology.
